We see in the teaching of John 15:1-8 (the Vive and branches), in Paul’s epistles, and elsewhere how God has made provision for the believer to live abundantly in Christ. At the Cross the “old man” was crucified with Him (Rom. 6:6) and the “new man” is united with Christ–raised with Him, and even ascended to heaven with Him! (Eph. 2:4-7). As we give up our soulish independence and cleave to the indwelling Christ by faith, an “exchange” takes place, either gradually or in a crisis. Paul’s testimony in Galatians 2:20 is the essence of this new covenant life: “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Dos Carter put this message into the following chart:
May we take time to study and pray through this list of contrasts, thereby walking victoriously by divine grace!
