Have you ever witnessed an artist transcend their craft? A musician, for example, who consistently delivers excellence but occasionally reaches a level so extraordinary that it leaves you speechless. Listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan’s rendition of Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix reminds me of this. His usual brilliance as a guitarist is undeniable, but there are moments when his music becomes something more—a full expression of his soul through his instrument, lifting the listener into a space that feels otherworldly.
In many ways, our walk with Christ mirrors this idea. Our daily lives with Him are filled with His consistent faithfulness, provision, and grace. But there are also moments—those “splashes of grace”—where His goodness washes over us in an unmistakable, life-changing way. These are moments of deep connection, joy, and awe, and they often arise out of the discipline of abiding in Him daily.
The Faithful Flow of Grace
Scripture reminds us that God’s grace is not sporadic or limited. His goodness flows continually, sustaining us moment by moment. John 1:16 declares, “From His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.” This abundant grace isn’t something we earn; it’s a gift given freely to those who abide in Christ.
Just as Stevie Ray Vaughan’s music came from years of discipline, practice, and dedication, so too does our experience of God’s daily grace grow as we walk with Him. Through prayer, meditation on His Word, and surrender to His Spirit, we cultivate an intimate relationship with Him.
Paul encourages this discipline in Galatians 5:25: “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” As we do, we discover the richness of His life within us—guiding, comforting, and equipping us for every moment.
Moments of Grace That Take Us Higher
While the steady flow of His grace sustains us, there are also times when we experience His presence in ways that leave us awestruck. These moments—those splashes of grace—remind us of His infinite kindness and love.
Perhaps it’s a verse of Scripture that suddenly resonates deeply, healing a wound or providing clarity we didn’t know we needed. Or a moment in worship where we sense His nearness so deeply that it brings us to tears. These moments aren’t about us achieving something—they are about God, in His goodness, allowing us to glimpse His heart in a way that transforms us.
David captured this in Psalm 16:11: “You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” God doesn’t just sustain us with His grace—He invites us into an abundant life where His splashes of grace refresh and renew our weary souls.
Daily Discipline and Divine Delight
Living in the abundance of Christ requires daily surrender and trust. Jesus spoke of this when He said, “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me” (John 15:4).
The beauty of abiding is that the Lord is always faithful to meet us. Whether through reading His Word, praying, or simply being still before Him, we position ourselves to receive His grace. And though the daily disciplines may feel ordinary at times, they are anything but. Each moment we spend with Him prepares us for the extraordinary—those times when His presence overwhelms us with peace, joy, or a fresh revelation of His love.
Hebrews 4:16 encourages us to “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Whether it’s His consistent provision or a special splash of grace, we can trust that He is always ready to meet us where we are.
Grateful for the Splashes, Anchored in His Ocean
It’s easy to crave the mountaintop moments—the ones where His presence feels almost tangible. But the truth is, even the splashes of grace are part of the vast ocean of His goodness. God’s grace is not something that comes and goes. It is always there, surrounding us, filling us, and flowing through us.
In those special moments of connection, we can be reminded of His faithfulness in the everyday. And in the everyday, we can remain hopeful, knowing that His splashes of grace will refresh and renew us when we need them most.
Lamentations 3:22-23 assures us, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Whether we’re experiencing His grace in the ordinary or the extraordinary, we can rest in the truth that He is always with us, always good, and always working for our good.
A Prayer of Gratitude for His Grace
Lord, thank You for the unending flow of Your grace in our lives. Thank You for the daily, sustaining grace that carries us through each moment. And thank You for the splashes of grace—those times when Your presence overwhelms us and reminds us of the depths of Your love.
Lord, continue to guide us as we abide in You daily, trusting in Your sufficiency and surrendering to Your Spirit. Let us walk faithfully in the ordinary, knowing that You are always preparing us for the extraordinary. May our lives reflect the beauty of Your grace, and may we never cease to be in awe of Your goodness. Amen.
